At least 12,000 low-income South Carolinians diagnosed as mentally ill are in need of housing in South Carolina.

 

To meet this need, MHASC created Turnkey Housing Corp., an arm of the organization that develops housing, especially in rural areas. The housing staff works with the local community to design housing that best fits the needs of consumers and may use federal, state and private funding sources for construction. MHASC and its affiliates are the single largest non-profit sponsoring housing for the psychiatrically disabled in South Carolina.

 

 

The staff and board of directors have worked very hard in the last twenty years to develop housing in local communities through our local affiliates. In our role to educate the community about mental health issues we have found that safe, decent, affordable housing is one of the biggest obstacles that mental health consumers face. We are committed to improving the lives of all people with mental illness and developing housing through out the state of S.C. At this time MHASC and it’s affiliates are serving 676 people in housing.
